What the company does
Semtech Corporation designs, develops, manufactures and markets analog semiconductors and advanced algorithms, wireless semiconductors, and connectivity modules, gateways, routers and connected services for the Internet of Things. Its products go into data center networking, IoT connectivity and cellular infrastructure, across three end markets it calls infrastructure, high-end consumer and industrial. It was incorporated in Delaware in 1960, and its end customers for its chips are mainly original equipment manufacturers, while its IoT hardware and services go to device makers, enterprises and solution providers.
Segments
It reports three segments. The first makes optical and copper data communications and video transport products, including chips for data centers, enterprise networks, passive optical networks and wireless base station optical transceivers, with high-speed interfaces from 100Mbps to 1.6Tbps that support standards such as Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and Ethernet. The second makes protection devices known as transient voltage suppressors, which shield electronics from voltage spikes such as electrostatic discharge and lightning surges, along with sensing products for proximity and force sensing, used in phones, televisions, computers, base stations, routers, cars and industrial systems. IoT Systems and Connectivity sells modules supporting LTE-M, NB-IoT and 5G, gateways, routers and connected services, including wireless connectivity and cloud-based services that customers use to deploy and run their devices.
