What the company does
Pinterest runs a visual search and discovery platform, used through its mobile app and the web, where people find ideas, save and organize them, and shop, and it earns money by selling digital ads. Its principal executive offices are in San Francisco, and its Class A common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Users and content
It has 619 million monthly active users in over 100 countries. Women make up roughly two-thirds of its users, and Gen Z users represent over 50%. Content, called Pins, comes from retailers, brands, creators, publishers and users, through product catalog uploads, direct publishing and user curation, in formats including images, videos, collages and products. Users move between the Home Feed, the Search page, Related Pins and the boards on which they save and organize Pins, and over 90% of its searches are unbranded. It uses the signals from what users search for, save and curate to power the AI recommendation systems that choose what content they see.
