    What the company does

BJ's Wholesale Club runs membership warehouse clubs concentrated primarily in the eastern half of the United States. It started the warehouse club model in New England in 1984, and by fiscal year end 2025 it operated 263 warehouse clubs and 199 gas stations across 21 states. Members pay an annual fee for access to groceries, fresh foods, general merchandise, gasoline and services, and the company has over 8 million of them.

    Scale and footprint

As of January 31, 2026 the clubs ranged in size from 44,000 square feet to 177,000 square feet. The largest club counts were in New York with 50, Florida with 43, Massachusetts with 26 and New Jersey with 24. In its home New England market, the company operates nearly three times the number of clubs of the next largest warehouse club competitor. Large format clubs go in dense, high traffic locations, and smaller format clubs serve markets too small for a large one or urban sites without room for it. A club generally needs ten acres to fourteen acres of land including parking. All of the company's identifiable assets are in the United States.
