What the company said with its results
From the second quarter of 2026 results, filed 6 August 2026.
- Net loss rose modestly. The company reported a net loss of $106.6 million, against $101.3 million a year earlier. The operating loss was $112.8 million.
- Collaboration revenue declined. Collaboration revenue was $7.7 million, compared with $14.2 million a year earlier. Management attributed the decrease mainly to lower revenue from Regeneron.
- Per-share loss narrowed. Net loss per share, basic and diluted, was $(0.80) against $(0.98). Weighted average shares rose to 133.5 million from 103.7 million.
- Phase 3 HAELO met primary endpoint. Lonvo-z reduced attacks 87% versus placebo over weeks 5 to 28, with mean monthly attack rates of 0.26 and 2.10 (p<0.0001). Data were presented at EAACI and published in NEJM.
- Attack-free rate reached 62%. 62% of lonvo-z patients were entirely attack free and therapy free over the six-month period, against 11% on placebo. All key secondary endpoints were met at p<0.0001.
- No serious adverse events reported. The most common adverse events were infusion-related reactions, headache, fatigue, back pain and upper respiratory tract infection. All were mild or moderate, and none were serious in the lonvo-z arm.
- BLA acceptance expected second half. The company expects FDA to accept the lonvo-z BLA in the second half of 2026. If approved, U.S. launch is planned for the first half of 2027.
- Launch readiness teams finalized. Field medical, reimbursement and strategic accounts teams were finalized. The company has engaged HAE treatment centers around the U.S.
- Phase 3 enrollment resumed. Enrollment in the nex-z Phase 3 trials resumed during the second quarter, after the FDA lifted the clinical holds earlier in the year.
- HLA allele tied to liver enzymes. A genomic analysis of more than 600 patient samples, with Regeneron and external experts, found the highest liver transaminase elevations in carriers of one HLA allele.
- HLA genotyping results to be shared. The company will provide HLA genotyping results to investigators and patients in the ongoing nex-z Phase 3 trials while it engages FDA and global health authorities.
- Phase 1 ATTR data presented. Nex-z Phase 1 clinical data in ATTR were presented at the Peripheral Nerve Society meeting in Maastricht and the ESC Heart Failure Congress in Barcelona.
- R&D expense fell year on year. R&D expenses were $82.6 million against $97.0 million, driven by lower external costs for lead programs and reduced stock-based compensation, partly offset by headcount-related costs.
- G&A rose on commercial buildout. G&A expenses were $37.8 million against $27.2 million, driven by commercial infrastructure buildout, higher legal expenses and stock-based compensation.

What the company does
Intellia Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company that develops gene editing treatments using CRISPR, lipid nanoparticles and oligonucleotides. Its two lead candidates are lonvo-z for hereditary angioedema and nex-z for transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis. Both are in Phase 3 development and are designed as a single intravenous infusion given in an outpatient setting. The company says they are the first in vivo genome editing product candidates in Phase 3.
What it develops
Intellia works on treatments meant to act on the root cause of a disease with one dose, rather than long-term chronic dosing. The candidates edit genes in the liver after being delivered with the company's lipid nanoparticle technology. Its research programs aim to reach tissues outside the liver and to use newer techniques, including DNA writing. The company says its strategy is to complete late-stage trials, build a commercial organisation focused on the United States, widen its pipeline and use partners to extend its technology.
Hereditary angioedema
Hereditary angioedema is a rare genetic disease with recurring swelling attacks. The filing says more than 10 products are approved in the United States for long-term prevention or on-demand treatment. Lonvo-z is designed to inactivate the KLKB1 gene in the liver to lower kallikrein levels.
The Phase 3 study, HAELO, enrolled 80 patients, randomised 2:1 to a single 50 mg infusion of lonvo-z or placebo. In the Phase 1/2 trial, 31 of 32 patients (97%) were attack-free and free of long-term prophylaxis at the data cutoff. The company has received five regulatory designations for lonvo-z across the United States, European Union and United Kingdom. It says it expects topline data by mid-2026 and a Biologics License Application in the second half of 2026.
ATTR amyloidosis
ATTR amyloidosis is a progressive disorder in which misfolded transthyretin protein deposits in the heart, nerves and other tissues. Nex-z is designed to inactivate the TTR gene in the liver. The company is testing it in two Phase 3 trials.
- MAGNITUDE covers ATTR with cardiomyopathy. It plans about 1,200 adults, and more than 650 are enrolled. - MAGNITUDE-2 covers hereditary ATTR with polyneuropathy. It plans 60 adults, and 47 are enrolled.
On 29 October 2025 the FDA placed both trials on clinical hold after a patient dosed in MAGNITUDE had Grade 4 liver transaminase elevations and increased total bilirubin. The patient later died. The FDA lifted the hold on MAGNITUDE-2 in January 2026. Discussions with the FDA continue on the hold for MAGNITUDE.
Partners and licences
Regeneron is the main collaborator. Under a 2016 agreement the parties research and develop CRISPR-based products focused mainly on the liver. Regeneron may develop products against up to fifteen exclusive in vivo targets, and Intellia is eligible for milestone payments and royalties of up to mid-single digits on sales.
For nex-z, Intellia leads clinical development and commercialisation. Regeneron shares approximately 25% of worldwide development costs and commercial profits and has an option to co-promote in the United States.
- AvenCell, a joint venture in which Intellia now holds less than 10%, developing universal CAR-T cell therapies. - Kyverna, which leads and funds development of KYV-201 for autoimmune diseases. Intellia is eligible for royalties and holds an option to co-commercialise in the United States.
Patents, manufacturing and competition
Intellia owns and in-licenses patents covering CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, base editing, DNA writing and lipid nanoparticle delivery. It holds an exclusive licence from Caribou Biosciences to CRISPR/Cas9 patents, including rights from the University of California, University of Vienna and Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier. Those patents are involved in interference proceedings at the US Patent and Trademark Office with the Broad Institute, ToolGen and Sigma-Aldrich. The filing says a win by one of these parties could lead to infringement claims against Intellia.
The company relies on third-party suppliers and its own capabilities to make materials for trials and any commercial supply.
Named competitors in hereditary angioedema include CSL Limited, Ionis Pharmaceuticals, KalVista Pharmaceuticals, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and BioCryst Pharmaceuticals. In ATTR they include Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, BridgeBio Pharma, Pfizer and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP. The filing also lists dozens of gene editing companies, including CRISPR Therapeutics AG, Beam Therapeutics and Editas Medicine.
How it is regulated
In the United States that means FDA approval through a Biologics License Application. In Europe it means a marketing authorisation application to the European Medicines Agency. The filing also names the MHRA in the United Kingdom and, for coverage and pricing, bodies such as NICE.
Its people
Of the 377 full-time employees, 263 work mainly in research and development and 106 hold an M.D. or Ph.D. degree. The company is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was incorporated in Delaware in May 2014. It lists its company values as ONE, EXPLORE, DISRUPT and DELIVER.
