What the company said with its results
From the second quarter of 2026 results, filed 3 August 2026.
- CASGEVY revenue reached $76 million. CASGEVY revenue was $76 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 78% from the first quarter's $43 million and 151% from a year earlier.
- Collaboration revenue drove total revenue. Total revenue was $10.2 million, including $10.0 million of collaboration revenue and $0.2 million of grant revenue. A year earlier, total revenue was $0.9 million.
- Net loss narrowed from prior year. Net loss was $91.2 million in the second quarter of 2026, compared with $208.5 million in the second quarter of 2025. The six-month net loss was $214.1 million.

- R&D expense eased slightly. R&D expense was $67.2 million, down from $69.9 million. The company attributed the decrease to lower employee and facility costs, partly offset by higher license fees.
- Acquired R&D fell from prior year. Acquired in-process R&D was $2.5 million, against $96.3 million a year earlier. The prior-year charge related to costs incurred on entering the Sirius Agreement.
- Collaboration expense declined. Collaboration expense, net, was $40.3 million, down from $45.2 million. The company attributed the decrease primarily to a larger share of CASGEVY revenue.
- G&A expense down on employee costs. General and administrative expense was $17.6 million, down from $18.9 million, mainly from lower employee costs including stock-based compensation.
- Cash and securities reached $2.36 billion. Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities were $2,364.4 million at June 30, 2026, up from $1,975.8 million at December 31, 2025.

What the company does
CRISPR Therapeutics AG is a biopharmaceutical company that develops gene-based medicines, including therapies built on CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Its most advanced product, CASGEVY (exagamglogene autotemcel, or exa-cel), was approved in 2023 and is described in the filing as the first approved CRISPR-based gene-editing therapy in the world. CASGEVY was developed with Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, or Vertex. The company also runs programs in in vivo editing, siRNA, CAR T cell therapy and regenerative medicine, and it operates a cell therapy manufacturing facility in Framingham, Massachusetts.
How the business is organised
The company groups its programs into four franchises: hemoglobinopathies, in vivo, CAR T approaches and regenerative medicine. Depending on the program, it either edits cells outside the body before giving them to the patient (ex vivo) or delivers the CRISPR-based therapeutic directly to target cells inside the body (in vivo). It is also developing delivery technologies and a gene correction platform it calls SyNTase.
CASGEVY and the Vertex partnership
CASGEVY is a non-viral, ex vivo therapy. A patient's own blood stem and progenitor cells are edited at the erythroid specific enhancer region of the BCL11A gene, which leads to production of fetal hemoglobin. It treats severe sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia in patients 12 years and older. It is approved in the United States, European Union, Great Britain, Canada, Switzerland, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The company estimates that about 60,000 people with severe forms of these diseases live in the United States, Canada, Europe and parts of the Middle East. Pivotal trials in children aged 5 to 11 are under way, along with long-term follow-up studies of up to 15 years.
CASGEVY is advanced under a joint development and commercialization agreement with Vertex, and Vertex leads commercialization. Since 1 July 2021, net profits and losses on CASGEVY have been allocated 40% to CRISPR and 60% to Vertex. Other Vertex agreements cover cystic fibrosis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy under licenses, a collaboration on myotonic dystrophy type 1, and a non-exclusive license to gene editing intellectual property for diabetes. The diabetes license provides for milestones and royalties.
In vivo and siRNA programs
The in vivo programs mainly target the liver, using lipid nanoparticle delivery. The most advanced, CTX310, targets the ANGPTL3 gene for cardiovascular disease and is in a Phase 1b trial. Earlier programs include CTX340 for refractory hypertension, CTX321 against LPA, and CTX460 for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, which is the first candidate from the SyNTase platform.
In May 2025 the company entered an agreement with Sirius Therapeutics for siRNA programs. The lead program, CTX611, targets coagulation factor XI and is in a Phase 2 trial in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty. The two companies share development and commercialization costs equally, and net profits and losses are also shared equally. For the first product, CRISPR leads in the United States and Sirius leads in Greater China.
Cell therapy and regenerative medicine
Zugo-cel (zugocabtagene geleucel, formerly CTX112) is an allogeneic CAR T candidate made from healthy donor cells and aimed at CD19. It carries five gene modifications, including knock-outs of Regnase-1 and TGFBR2. It is being tested in a trial covering systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis and inflammatory myositis, in a second trial in immune thrombocytopenia purpura and warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and in a Phase 1/2 trial in relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies. The company also has a collaboration and clinical supply agreement with Eli Lilly to study zugo-cel together with pirtobrutinib. The FDA has granted zugo-cel RMAT designation for relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma and marginal zone lymphoma.
In regenerative medicine, CTX213 is a beta cell replacement candidate for Type 1 diabetes, made of unencapsulated precursor islet cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. It has six gene edits and has shown preclinical efficacy.
Manufacturing and intellectual property
The Framingham facility is about 50,000 square feet and operates under current Good Manufacturing Practice. The company began making product candidates there for clinical trials in 2023, including zugo-cel. It also uses contract manufacturers in the United States and abroad.
The company owns about eighty active patent families and over one hundred twenty granted or allowed patents. It has also held an exclusive license since April 2014 to rights of Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier, which cover parts of its CRISPR/Cas9 platform. The filing notes that this core intellectual property is jointly owned and that the company is or has been involved in patent proceedings in several jurisdictions.
Who it competes with
The filing names other CRISPR/Cas companies, including Editas Medicine, Intellia Therapeutics, Metagenomi and Scribe Therapeutics. It also names companies working on base editing and other editing methods, such as Beam Therapeutics and Prime Medicine. Competitors in siRNA include Alnylam and Arrowhead Therapeutics, and in cell therapy they include Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis and Allogene. The company says many competitors have greater financial resources and experience than it does. It lists efficacy, safety, convenience and availability of reimbursement as the key competitive factors.
