What the company does
SoundHound AI builds voice and conversational AI software that other companies build into their products and services. The company states its mission as voice-enabling the world through an independent AI platform. Its customers include makers of cars, TVs and IoT devices, and service businesses such as restaurants. Its technology works in 25 languages, and at 31 December 2025 it had approximately 954 full-time employees.
What it sells
The base of the business is Houndify, an open-access developer platform. It gives developers voice AI tools and a library of over 100 content domains, such as points of interest, weather, flight status and sports. The tools include APIs for text and voice queries, support for custom commands, software development kits, diagnostic tools and built-in analytics. Companies can also add private domains of their own content.
SoundHound says its Speech-to-Meaning technology recognises speech and works out its meaning in one step. Most traditional approaches first turn speech into text and then text into meaning. Its Deep Meaning Understanding technology is built to handle complex queries with several criteria and follow-up questions.
- Smart Ordering, which takes food and drink orders by phone, at menu kiosks or at the drive-thru, and integrates with multiple POS systems. - Smart Answering, a custom voice assistant that answers calls for establishments such as restaurants. - - SoundHound Chat AI, a voice assistant that combines its knowledge domains with large language models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. - Wake words, text-to-speech voices, and edge, cloud and hybrid versions that can run with or without a cloud connection.
In 2025 the company launched the Amelia 7 platform, an AI agent orchestration platform. In vehicles it lets several agents carry out tasks and transactions for the driver.
How it makes money
The company describes three revenue pillars. In Product Royalties, a product maker pays a royalty based on volume, usage or duration when SoundHound is built into a car, TV or other device. In Service Subscriptions, service providers pay fixed monthly fees or usage-based fees for things like customer service or food ordering. This line also includes the Amelia Software Platform and Virtual Assistance.
The filing says the majority of current revenue comes from royalties and subscriptions. Monetization today comes only from the SoundHound music identification app, mainly from ad impressions and, to a lesser extent, affiliate referrals. The company says it expects monetization to grow over time. Professional services that customise the platform are included in the royalty and subscription lines. The company reports revenue in three regions: Americas, Asia and EMEA. In the past about 40% of its revenue has come in the first half of the year and 60% in the second half.
Who it sells to
SoundHound sells mainly to enterprises across automotive, TV, IoT, apps and restaurants, and it also serves customer service operations. The 2025 purchase of Interactions Corporation added customers the company describes as global consumer brands, large technology device brands, insurers and automakers. Sales and marketing uses an account-based approach. The company notes that enterprise sales cycles can be longer than consumer ones.
How it describes its competition
The company groups other voice AI providers into big tech and legacy vendors. It says big tech assistants tend to take over a product's whole experience, brand and data, and in some cases compete with the customers they serve. It says legacy vendors use older technology that takes much effort to make competitive. SoundHound says it does not compete with its customers and offers white label solutions so customers keep their brand. It also says customers can set their own privacy controls.
Where it came from
Its founders began work in 2005, and the company says it is still run by that founding team. The SoundHound music identification app launched in 2009 and has over 300 million downloads. Houndify was introduced in 2015 and launched in 2016. The company went public in 2022. It has bought SYNQ3 (3 January 2024), Amelia Holdings, Inc. (6 August 2024) and Interactions Corporation (3 September 2025).
Patents and people
The company reports over 359 patents granted and over 102 patents pending, covering speech recognition, natural language understanding, machine learning and monetization. Of its 461 patents granted and pending, more than 40 are in conversational monetization.
Of its employees, about 56% are in the United States and 44% are in international locations. Many staff can choose their office location or work from home some or all of the time.
