What the company does
Global Industrial Company is a distributor of industrial equipment and supplies in North America, which it describes as value-added. It sells through a system of branded e-commerce websites and relationship marketers who work with business customers. The company was incorporated in Delaware in 1995, and some predecessor businesses have operated since 1949. Its headquarters is at 11 Harbor Park Drive, Port Washington, New York. It employed approximately 1,980 associates at 31 December 2025.
What it sells
The company sells industrial products and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) products. Other companies manufacture these products. Some are made for the company and sold as white label products. Others are made to its own design and sold as private brand products under the trademarks Global, GlobalIndustrial.com, Nexel, Paramount, Interion and Absocold. It groups these under the name Global Industrial Exclusive Brands.
The categories include storage and shelving, safety and security, carts and trucks, HVAC and fans, material handling, janitorial and facility maintenance, tools and instruments, plumbing and pumps, lighting and electrical, medical and laboratory, packaging and shipping, fasteners and hardware, vehicle maintenance and raw materials, among others. The company offers hundreds of thousands of brand name and private brand products on its e-commerce sites. It also has access to more long tail products through its vendor partners.
It has made two acquisitions in recent years. On 19 May 2023 it bought 100% of the equity of Indoff LLC, a business-to-business direct marketer of material handling products, commercial interiors and business products. On 28 April 2025 it acquired an equipment service provider, which the company says broadens its value-added offerings in certain key equipment categories.
How it sells
Customers can order through the company's websites, including globalindustrial.com, globalindustrial.ca and industrialsupplies.com. The company also runs informational sites for Absocold, Indoff and Triad Service. It supports e-procurement connections such as EDI, CXML and punch out catalogs, and customers can set up repeat subscription purchases. Orders received electronically represented over 60% of the transaction count on its core Global Industrial business in the United States in 2025. The rest come by telephone, through field sales representatives and, to a small extent, by fax. The company also offers chat support around the clock, using both AI chatbots and live associates.
Account managers build one to one relationships with business customers. The sales force includes Public Sector, Industrial, Commercial, Retail, Healthcare and Hospitality / Multi-Family Account Managers, supported by National Account Managers, Business Development Representatives and Territory Sales Managers. In early 2026 the company reorganised its account managers and sales support staff to target specific customer end markets. Marketing also includes email campaigns, catalog mailings, keyword and digital marketing, sports marketing partnerships and group purchasing organizations.
Who buys from it
The company sells mainly to business customers. These include for-profit and not-for-profit businesses, state, local and private educational organizations, and government entities. Its core customers are small and mid-sized businesses, and it also serves large enterprises. It serves accounts that buy high-value durable goods only occasionally, and accounts that place many small orders for supplies and consumables. Standard payment terms are 30 days. Some customers have extended terms, which generally do not exceed 90 days. Customers can usually return products within 30 days.
How orders are filled
Stocked items ship from five primary distribution centers in the United States, located in the Northeast, Midwest, West, Southeast and South Central regions. The company also has one large distribution facility in Canada and several smaller facilities in the United States and Canada. It leases all of its facilities. Other items are drop shipped directly by vendor partners. The company says it tends to stock an item after that item has shown sales volume through drop shipping. Deliveries go through common carriers that the company contracts with directly.
The company buys substantially all of its products directly from large and small manufacturers and from large wholesale distributors. It maintains relationships with thousands of distributors and product vendors. No supplier accounted for 10% or more of product purchases in 2025, 2024 or 2023.
Who it competes with
The company describes the North American industrial products market as fragmented, with channels such as small dealerships, direct mail distributors, internet resellers, warehouse stores and retail outlets. Named competitors include Uline, Grainger, MSC Industrial Direct, Fastenal and Amazon. It also competes with manufacturers' own sales representatives and with regional or local distributors. Buyers decide mainly on price, product selection, availability, level of service, open account terms and convenience.
Some product lines are seasonal, including HVAC, snow removal and outdoor furniture. Sales and operating margin in the second and third quarters tend to be moderately higher than in the first and fourth quarters.
Its people
Of the approximately 1,980 associates, 1,710 were in North America and 270 were in Asia. About 36% are customer facing, 26% work in distribution, logistics and fulfillment, and 37% work in administrative functions. Employees are not subject to collective bargaining agreements, and the company reports no work stoppages.
