What the company does
Driven Brands is an automotive services company that calls itself the largest in North America. It has over 4,200 locations across 49 states in the United States and Canada, of which 3,216 are franchised and 1,036 are company-operated. Its services cover oil changes, maintenance and repair, paint, collision and glass. Its brands include Take 5 Oil Change, Meineke Car Care Center, MAACO, CARSTAR, AutoGlassNow and 1-800-Radiator & A/C. Its network serves retail, commercial and insurance customers.
How the business is organised
The company reports three segments: Take 5, Franchise Brands and Auto Glass Now. It reorganised its segments twice during the year. The second change followed the announced sale of its International Car Wash business. The U.S. Car Wash business was sold in April 2025 and International Car Wash in January 2026. Both are reported as discontinued operations, so the segments above cover what remains.
What each segment does
Take 5 is mainly Take 5 Oil Change, founded in 1984, with 1,342 locations at 27 December 2025. Of these, 530 are franchised and 812 are company-operated. It offers a stay-in-your-car oil change and some add-on services such as differential fluid exchanges, coolant services and air and cabin filters. The company describes a compact store layout and a shallow pit design.
Franchise Brands has 2,699 locations. It includes: - Meineke, founded in 1972, with 780 franchised locations offering maintenance and repair, including brakes, heating and cooling, exhaust and tires. - Collision repair under CARSTAR, ABRA and Fix Auto, with 1,077 locations that are almost exclusively franchised. - Maaco, founded in 1972, with 370 franchised paint and refinishing locations. - Uniban, a Canadian glass business with 271 locations, 96% of them franchised. - 1-800 Radiator, with 201 locations that are almost exclusively franchised. It distributes radiators, air conditioning components and exhaust products to repair shops, parts stores and body shops. - Automotive Training Institute, which sells multi-year training packages to independent shops, typically as a monthly subscription.
Auto Glass Now provides glass replacement, repair and calibration in the United States through 211 locations and hundreds of mobile vans. The company bought the business in December 2021 and added 11 more auto glass repair businesses in 2022 and 2023.
How it earns money
Company-operated store sales make up 69.5%, supply and other revenue 14.4%, franchise royalties and fees 10.2%, and advertising fund contributions 5.8%.
Franchisees generally pay a lump sum initial license fee and ongoing royalties, typically a percentage of gross sales. Some also contribute to marketing funds. Initial terms generally run 5 to 20 years, with an option to renew. All new store sites need the company's approval. Franchise agreements can require franchisees to follow standard operating methods and to buy specified products from the company, its affiliates or designated vendors. The company does not control the day-to-day operations of franchisees, such as hiring and training.
The company also provides shared services to its network. These include consumer insights, procurement savings, commercial fleet, training, development, finance and technology. It says it can often supply its network with lower-cost supplies than members could buy alone.
Who it sells to
Customers are retail drivers, commercial customers such as fleet operators, and insurance carriers. For commercial and insurance customers the company offers a one-stop service across its brands, with centralised billing. It also provides claims management services, including glass claims for insurance carriers. Maaco serves retail customers who prefer not to file an insurance claim.
How it competes
The industry is highly fragmented. Competitors include repair and maintenance shops, oil change shops, collision and glass shops, car dealerships, and parts suppliers such as online retailers and wholesale distributors. The company says most competitors offer services within one of its categories and few offer several. It names the core competitive factors as scale, geographic reach, brand awareness, service pricing, speed and quality, and customer satisfaction. It also competes with other franchisors for franchisees, based on expected return on investment.
Weather affects demand. Customers may defer oil changes in bad weather and buy fewer undercar services in winter.
Its people and rules
At 27 December 2025 the company employed approximately 7,100 full-time employees, about 6,500 of them at company-operated locations. None are covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Employees of franchisees are not Driven Brands employees.
The company is subject to federal, state, local and provincial laws on consumer protection, licensing, environmental protection, data privacy and employment. As a franchisor it follows Federal Trade Commission disclosure rules. Fourteen states require franchise registration, and over twenty states and U.S. territories have franchise relationship laws. Most Canadian provinces require pre-sale disclosure.
