What the company does
AvePoint describes itself as a global provider of modern data protection, helping organizations secure, govern and operationalize data across major cloud ecosystems. Its product is the AvePoint Confidence Platform, which technology teams in IT operations, development operations and cybersecurity use to govern and secure the digital workplace. As of 31 December 2025, the company served more than 28,000 end customers across more than 100 countries, and it had 3,443 employees globally. The company reports as one segment and sells through a direct sales force and a partner network.
What it sells
The platform is built on a Platform-as-a-Service architecture and connects to Microsoft, Salesforce, Google, AWS, Box and Dropbox, along with tools such as Docusign, Confluence, GitHub, Jira, Okta, Bitbucket, Smartsheet and Monday.com. It is organised into three suites:
- Control Suite: automates data governance, enforces policies, optimizes SaaS spending, and shows access, risk and entitlements across collaboration platforms. - Resilience Suite: covers Backup-as-a-Service, ransomware recovery, lifecycle management and classification-driven protection. - Modernization Suite: moves legacy systems and processes into AI-ready, SaaS-based experiences.
The company has begun packaging the Control and Resilience suites into three tiers called Essentials, Plus and Complete. It says customers usually start with one use case and add others over time. The use cases include ransomware protection and disaster recovery, regulatory compliance and information lifecycle, cloud transformation and modernization, and multi-tenant management. They also include governance of AI agents.
The filing says the platform addresses four data problems: fragmented legacy data, overexposed data, digital sprawl, and data loss or interruption. Customer data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or greater and at rest with AES-256. The company holds SOC 2 Type II attestation and ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 certifications, and its FedRAMP (moderate) authorization covers service to U.S. federal agencies. In 2025 it also achieved ISMAP certification in Japan.
How it makes money
The company has four revenue sources: SaaS, term license and support, services, and maintenance. SaaS, term license and support, and maintenance are treated as recurring. SaaS accounted for 76% of total revenue.
SaaS and term license and support are generally sold per user license or by the amount of data protected, and both are primarily billed annually. SaaS revenue is recognized ratably over the contract term. Services cover implementation, training, consulting, license customization and managed services, and the filing says these are not inherently recurring. Maintenance is ongoing support for legacy perpetual licenses, which the company no longer offers to new customers.
Management tracks annual recurring revenue, which it calculates as the annualized sum of contractually obligated annual contract value from SaaS, term license and support, and maintenance for all active customers. Revenue is reported for North America, EMEA and APAC. Historically the first quarter has been the lowest revenue quarter and the fourth quarter the highest.
Who buys from it
The company sorts customers by number of user seats, and no customer represented more than 10% of billings or accounts receivable.
|, -|, -|, -| | Small Business (SMB) | Fewer than 500 user seats | 20% | | Mid-Market | More than 500 but fewer than 5,000 user seats | 28% | | Enterprise | More than 5,000 user seats | 52% |
SMB customers are served mainly through channel partners, especially managed service providers (MSPs). Mid-Market customers are increasingly served through partners. Enterprise customers are served primarily by direct sales teams.
How it reaches customers
The channel program includes approximately 6,000 managed service providers, value added resellers and system integrators. Subscriptions sold through channel partners primarily use a two-tier, indirect fulfillment model. The products are also available in more than 100 software marketplaces, including the Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services marketplaces. MSPs receive a special edition of the platform called the Elements edition, which lets them manage multiple clients, clouds and tenants. The company also keeps strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Google and AWS covering technology, sales and marketing. It says it has completed six acquisitions since 2022, though most current offerings were built in-house.
How it competes
The company says it competes mainly by use case. Its competitors fall into three groups: data protection and legacy backup vendors, vendors focused on cybersecurity and data security categories, and smaller cloud and data management vendors. The company says it believes its single integrated platform, ease of use, scalability, integration breadth, time-to-value and total cost of ownership set it apart. It also reports a Net Promoter Score above 50, citing CustomerGauge benchmarking data.
Its people and offices
The company operates across 32 offices. Its principal executive offices are in Jersey City, New Jersey, and its principal operating offices are in Richmond, Virginia. Research and development is spread across the United States, China, Singapore and Vietnam. The staff includes programmers, data and computer scientists, engineers, project managers, and sales and marketing professionals. None of its employees are represented by a labor union.
