What the company does
Figma is a software company based in San Francisco that sells a browser-based platform for designing and building digital products. Designers, developers, product managers, researchers, marketers and writers use it together in shared files. In the three months ended 31 December 2025, non-designers made up approximately two-thirds of its monthly active users. Figma was incorporated in Delaware in October 2012, and its Class A common stock has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "FIG" since its initial public offering in August 2025. At 31 December 2025 it had 1,886 employees, whom it calls Figmates.
What it sells
Figma Design, launched in 2015, is the core product. Figma Draw sits inside it for detailed vector editing. The company has added products that cover more of the path from idea to finished software:
- FigJam, launched in 2021, is a whiteboarding and brainstorming tool. - Dev Mode, launched in 2023, gives developers generated code and design details. In 2025 the company added its own Model Context Protocol server so a coding agent can read a Figma design. - Figma Slides, launched in 2024, is for presentations. - Figma Make turns text prompts or existing designs into working prototypes or web apps. - Figma Sites publishes a design as a website. - Figma Buzz creates marketing assets from templates.
Figma Sites and Figma Buzz were in beta at year end. In 2025 the company acquired Payload CMS, Inc., an open-source headless content management system. It also acquired Weavy Inc., which became Figma Weave, a browser canvas that combines AI models with editing tools for images and video. The company says it relies mainly on off-the-shelf foundational models for its AI features.
How it charges
Figma is sold as an annual or monthly subscription, per seat. Four plans are offered: Starter (free), Professional, Organization and Enterprise. Seat types are Viewer (free), Collab, Content, Dev and Full, and each opens a different set of products. The Content seat had been announced but was not yet available at year end. The company introduced AI credits on all seats in 2025. It says it intends to begin enforcing credit limits in March 2026 and to offer extra credit subscriptions or pay-as-you-go plans.
Subscription agreements generally run for monthly or annual terms and are generally non-cancelable. Customers are typically invoiced in advance. The company says its billings are seasonal and that this may become more pronounced as larger customers account for more of the business.
How it reaches customers
Figma runs a self-service route through Figma.com and a direct sales team that sets up and expands larger accounts. Many users start on free plans and later move into managed accounts with more seats and products. The company calls this product-led adoption. Students and educators get the Professional plan free, and K-12 students and educators get the Organization plan free.
Partners include Atlassian, Zoom, Notion and Linear, with integrations for ChatGPT, GitHub and Storybook. A Figma app also runs in ChatGPT and Claude. Companies in banking, consumer-packaged goods, energy, manufacturing and software use the platform. The company received FedRAMP authorization in early 2025 and offers a Governance+ add-on for customers with strict data-control needs. Its security program is audited against ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 27017, ISO 27018 and SOC 2 Type II.
Where it operates
The company has 14 offices in 11 countries, with local staff in 19 countries across 5 continents. A substantial majority of employees work in the United States. The product is available in English, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Brazilian and Portuguese. The company accepts five currencies, its website is available in ten languages, and its support channels operate in seven languages.
Competition and intellectual property
It lists factors such as breadth of products, ease of use, collaboration, integration, pricing, and community, and says it believes it competes favorably on them.
It relies on patent, copyright, trade secret and trademark laws plus confidentiality and assignment agreements. At 31 December 2025 it held 22 issued U.S. patents, 78 U.S. patent applications and 159 non-U.S. pending patent applications. It also held 103 registered trademarks and 98 trademark applications, with filings in 62 countries, Hong Kong and the European Union.
Community
Figma runs Config, an annual conference that started in 2020 and is held in San Francisco. It also supports hundreds of Friends of Figma chapters worldwide and a Community platform where users share plugins and widgets. Plugins are available in Figma Design, FigJam and Figma Slides. Figma Ventures is its investment vehicle for outside companies.
